About Our Project

This project is located in Louisville, Kentucky. It was a historic windows renovation case. The project site was originally a textile factory. As built in the early twentieth century, those exterior historic windows and doors have fallen into a shabby state over the years.

The new owner has taken over the site of the factory and wants to turn it into an industrial-style office building. So, the exterior walls were only simply maintained, not repainted to maintain a sense of age while allowing the new windows to blend in with the overall atmosphere while highlighting the design aesthetics.
Therefore at that time, our design idea was to provide a larger light area while maintaining the overall aesthetics and maintaining good ventilation without taking up too much interior area by opening windows.

However, we encountered a problem with the window type. The factory's reconstruction standards require that the window type should be consistent with the appearance before the renovation. The old windows were single-hung windows, and although the client felt that the functionality of the old windows was outdated, there was no other way out. At this time, our designer proposed that we could change the window opening method to tilt and turn while maintaining the same historic window appearance. Finally, we adopted the Simulated Hung Windows, which featured upper fixed windows, and lower tilt and turn windows, all with simulated-divided-lite with warm spacers. From the visual side, our products completely simulated the original historic hung windows in the factory.

In the 20th century, properties kept the popular double-hung windows, sometimes with multi-paned upper sash and casement windows. But the elaborate trim of the previous house styles was gone in favor of flat woodwork that was more in keeping with the developing aesthetic for simplicity with metal or aluminum materials.
Windows and doors are an important part of any home, but they can be even more so now that we have more options than ever before. Thanks to advances in technology and materials, our windows and doors are now more energy-efficient than ever before, while still retaining the classic design of past buildings.

The U.S. and Canada have been slow to embrace the benefits of tilt-turns, which have been appreciated in Europe for many years. "We're seeing more and more demand for tilt-turns as people become more aware of their benefits," said Vincent, the Doorwin Technical director. "This is especially true as homeowners begin to see how convenient and functional it is to operate their windows with more versatile."

Sometimes keeping the original design and using modern replacements can be easier to manage than switching a total style in your property. Add unique character with historic-looking, these gorgeous windows are custom-crafted with a tilt and turn operating, they are using German-imported hardware, energy-efficient glazing, and mullion designs, giving your property an elegant look.

01 / Grilles/Divided Lites

Divided lite windows and doors offer unique architectural aesthetics for buildings without compromising any energy efficiency. Doorwin provides multiple muntin and glass options to customize your divided lite windows and doors. Further customization is available with a variety of colors and materials, creating an infinite number of design combinations to best suit your style.

In this project, our GBG divided lites are finished in black tones to resemble aluminum windows with a retro and historic aesthetic. Square-shaped divided lite profiles support this industrial factory look, adding visual framing and delineating large open spaces. These grilles add that special touch to match windows or doors to any historical style, turning the curb appeal of this factory into a dramatic statement.

02 / Profiles

For this project, we used high-quality thermal break aluminum profiles. Finest extruded aluminum profiles with a thickness of 1.8 mm to provide excellent durability and strength. With a polyamide bar (Polyamide 66, or Nylon 66) PA66 is applied in the middle of aluminum profiles to break or insulate the heat and cold, The polyamide we use is from the world-famous brand Technoform Bautec™ (www.technoform.com). Thermal breaks have decreased aluminum frame U-factors (heat loss rate) from roughly 2.0 to about 1.0 Btu/hr-sq. ft-°F. In hot climates. Our thermal break aluminum is more than 1.4 mm in thickness, and Doorwin’s exclusive thermal break aluminum profiles perform much better than standard aluminum in both insulation and strength.

03 / Delivery & Warranty

With US standards and NFRC certifications, our energy-efficient integrated glazing units (IGU) feature double-pane glass, warm-edge spacers, argon gas fill, Low-E coatings, and fully tempered glass, they can not only create a comfortable and natural indoor environment but also save electricity bills and heating bills around 100~300USD per month according to your whole building’s fenestration areas. That’s a real bargain compared to choosing a regular glazing set.

04 / Free Design Assistance

With our own expertise, we provided the no-cost design development and contract documentation with CAD & BIM drawings, including elevation, details about the project, and installation help.

Before production, we will provide accurate sample drawings, which will clearly show the cross-sectional pattern, size, opening method and direction, pattern of the warm spacer, and the installation nodes. We will not go into production until you have signed off on the drawing to ensure that you receive a final product that meets the exact requirements of your project.

05 / Delivery & Warranty

We export tens of millions of dollars of windows and doors to the U.S. every year, and we know that improper packaging can cause breakage of the product when it arrives on site, and the biggest loss from this is, I'm afraid, the cost of time, after all, workers on site have requirements of working time and it needs to wait for a new shipment to arrive in case of damage occurs to the goods.

So, we pack each window individually and in four layers, and finally into (non-fumigated) wooden boxes, and at the same time, there will be a lot of shockproof measures in the container, to protect your products. We are very experienced in how to pack and protect our products to ensure they arrive at the sites in good condition after long-distance transportation. What the client concerned, we concern most.

Each layer of the outer packaging will be labeled to guide you on how to install, it to avoid delaying the progress due to incorrect installation.

In our opinion, good quality means never having to compromise. The high-quality aluminum and components that we use allow us without compromising structural strength. In other words, even with slim frames, we offer a high-performing product for you. Our research and development team made sure that you still get unrivaled thermal insulation, high performance, and top-quality hardware on the 10 YEARS WARRANTY. The TPS glazing ensures that no air leakage and fogging issues on products for 25 YEARS WARRANTY.
